Engineer in Extractive Metallurgy from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso (PUCV), Chile, with a Postgraduate Diploma in “Responsible Mining” (PUCV Mining Center, Chile) and Postgraduate Diploma in “Mining Management” (Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile).
PhD Student at the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering (UQ), under the supervision of Professor Italo Onederra and Dr Christopher Leonardi. Thesis title called “Understanding the impact of explosive induced preconditioning on the leaching kinetics of porphyry deposits”, part of the research project “Rock mass preconditioning and fragmentation” funded by BHP Billiton Group Operations Pty Ltd. Currently, Assistant Professor at the PUCV School of Chemical Engineering. Work experience at BHP and Codelco Chile as Process Hydrometallurgist and Nuoer Chemical as Flocculant Processes Engineer. Teaching Experience at UQ as Casual Academic for “Professional Practice and the Business Environment” (ENGG4900) and “Engineering Innovation and Leadership” (ENGG7902); as Lecturer for PUCV and Universidad de Playa Ancha and Full-Time teacher in Liceo Tecnico San Felipe thanks to my participation in the non-profit organization “Ensena Chile”. Living in Brisbane with my wife Kathy and our children Max, Gabriel and Octavio.
Area/Research interests: Hydrometallurgy, In-Situ Recovery, Solution Mining Methods, and Mining Education.
